Air Pollution


AIR POLLUTION
Pollution-Pollution means introduction of   contaminants in our surroundings. It is derives from Latin word ‘pollotioneum’ which means ‘to make dirty’.

Air is a mixture of various gases of which 78% is nitrogen, 21% is oxygen and 1% of other gases like carbon dioxide, argon, neon, etc.

When air is contaminated by introduction of unwanted substances it is called air pollution.

CAUSES
1.  Burning of fossil fuels.
2.  Pollutants from factories and vehicles.
3.  Using appliances which emit chlorofluorocarbons.
4.  Increase in Greenhouse gases.
5.  Smog- During cold times a Fog-like layer covers the atmosphere. It is composed of smog and fog.

METHODS OF AIR POLLUTION
1.  Burn less fossil fuels.
2.  Use of non conventional sources of energy.
3.  Use of unleaded petrol in vehicles.
4.  Use of Hydrogen fuel cells in cars
5.  Use of CNG in automobiles.
6.  Installation of large chimneys and filters in factories.
7.  Plant trees.
